Not only artworking in the Brighton locality but gathering materials for natural working, the South Downs is at the heart of Penny's current work. she started this project in celebration of its recognition as a National Park.
Downlands has been created by forming a ground by rubbing plant dyes into the canvas, dry leaves have been stuck on, petals pounded in, unbleached tissue paper has been coloured with water colour paints and PVA used for sticking as the one concession to processed materials.
Drawing has taken place with earth, fired and broken terracotta, homemade charcoal and locally gathered chalk.
